During the month of April, the technology students met with 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students at Stephens Elementary. The project was inspired by the need to build an interest in coding at a young age. They taught after-school students coding fundamentals via a web-based tool called Code Combat. The elementary kids really enjoyed the experience. The associates collaborated with the teacher cadets to gain insight on keeping students engaged. The take-away from this project was detailed planning is very important. The unexpected may happen but good preparation increases the likelihood of a successful project.
Our objective is to bring coding awareness to young kids so they can get exposed to technology and gain great experience at an early age. We choose this project so that we can bring awareness to coding and technology while also helping others and gaining teacher experience. Also, Steve Jobs says, ” everyone should be able to know how to program a computer because it teaches you how to think.”
